American Music Professors Visit TU-K

On Friday 5th of February 2016, the Department of Music hosted The Ludwig Quartet comprising of 4 Professors from the United States of America. They included Prof Brandon Craswell, an Associate Professor of Trumpet at University of Georgia; Prof Robert White, an Assistant Professor of Trumpet from Western Michigan University School of Music; Prof Mark DeGoti, an Assistant Professor of Trumpet at Auburn University; and, Prof Joseph Van Fleet from the Faculty of Eastern Kentucky University.

The quartet, who were visiting Kenya and Africa for the first time, gave an astounding performance, recital and master class to our students at the Permanent Presidential Music Commission (PPMC). The repertoire ranged from Classical, Jazz to contemporary arrangements including an amazing rendition of the Amazing Grace. Also in attendance were horn players from the Kenya Defense Forces Band, Kenya Prisons Band, Kenya Administration Police Band, Starehe Girls Centre, Kenyatta University and our own music students and student musicians.

The quartet latter paid presented two trumpets to the Vice-Chancellor Prof Francis Aduol. While receiving the trumpets, the VC reiterated that the university had made major strides in three years since it was chartered. He commended the Music Department for creating major collaborations both regionally and internationally.
