Call for Papers : Arts, Education and Community Engagement Trialogue II
14-19 FEBRUARY 2016
Artistic expressions have long been recognised as cultural elements of significant social value. With the growth of the creative economy, their role in national development has come to the fore. This calls for consideration of the impact of education on their development, and their subsequent effect on the community. The Technical University of Kenya will host the second international conference that focuses on the synergies between Arts, Education and Community Engagement in a trialogue that explores matters of theory and practice. The conference aims to bring together players in the industry and the academy to deliberate on the tooling of practitioners in the arts for effective engagement with community and contribution to industry, and to interrogate how trends in the industry can be fashioned by (higher) education, among others. It is expected that Trialogue II will afford a forum for knowledge exchange for local and international participants leading to better understanding and collaboration. The conference will consider:
- Arts education for community development;
- International perspectives on theory and practice;
- Multiculturalism in arts education;
- The creative industry and higher education planning, practice and management;
- Implications of indigenous philosophies and practices for modern education and practice;
- Emerging trends and issues in the practice of arts;
- Matters of policy and administration.
Discipline-specific, multi-disciplinary and general practice and policy related submissions are invited for the academic portion of Trialogue II for 20-minute spoken papers, poster, symposium or lecture-demonstration/workshop that speak to any of the areas above, or any significant theme that authors may be working with. A 300 hundred word abstract indicating the type of submission should be sent as a word attachment to ArtsEducationCommunity.firstname.lastname@example.org to reach not later than October 15th 2015. Authors of successful abstracts will be requested to submit full papers by December 15th 2015. Please address all enquiries to the same address.

- Day III Tuesday 16th February: Plenary presentations/round table; parallel sessions I & II
- Day IV Wednesday 17th February: Plenary, posters, Cultural Tour (visits to projects)
- Day V Thursday 18th February: Parallel Sessions III & IV, plenary, Trialogue I Report, Closing Ceremony
- Day VI Friday 19th February: departure
