Staff Certificate Audit Begins at Samsung Lab

The certificate verification exercise is currently underway in the Samsung Lab. The exercise was supposed to begin at 9.00 am but due to some logistical hitches, it was delayed up to 11.30 am. The Chairman of the Certificate Verification Committee, Prof. Peter Matu, was delighted that members of staff had turned up in large numbers and had waited patiently for the exercise to begin. “We were not able to begin at 9.00 am as earlier anticipated but we have since addressed the hitch,” said Prof. Matu.

The audit was prompted by a directive from the Public Service Commission to all State agencies and corporations directing them to audit academic and professional certificates of all officers and submit their reports by 31st December 2023.

In a memo to all members of staff dated 7th December 2023, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Benedict Mutua, said members of staff who will fail to present their academic and professional certificates for verification, will be struck off the payroll. In addition, members of staff holding Master’s and PhD degrees are also required to present their respective theses. Those with certificates from foreign institutions are supposed to be issued with recognition letters from the Commission for University Education.

According to the directive from PSC, members of staff found to have presented forged certificates for employment, will be sacked and surcharged from the day they were employed.

“Sacked employees will not be entitled to any form of benefits including pensions or unpaid allowances and accrued leave.”

The State agencies were also ordered to report such cases of forgery to the Department of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for prosecution and recovery of monies owed and assets procured from fraudulent activities.

By the time of filing this report, at 1.00 pm, more than 100 members of staff had appeared and presented their certificates before the verification committee.
