Suicide is the result of a convergence of risk factors including but not limited to genetic, psychological, social and cultural risk factors, sometimes combined with experiences of trauma and loss • Depression is the most common psychiatric disorder in people who die by suicide

  • Previous suicide attempts
  • Substance abuse
  • Family history of suicide
  • Low levels of job / career satisfaction
  • History of abuse (either as a victim or witnessing continuous abuse )
  • Being diagnosed with a serious medical condition, such as cancer or HIV
  • Socially isolated or a victim of bullying
  • Exposure to suicidal behavior Recognizing the signs and symptoms of suicidal behavior
    •  Hopelessness
    •  Feeling trapped
    •  Feeling alone / excessive feelings of loneliness
    •  Anxious and or agitation
    •  Lack of interest in things otherwise enjoyed
    •  Pre occupation of thoughts, talk and ideations about suicide
    •  Substance use
