Student’s Tourism Tech’ Project to Compete in Dubai

Students from the Technical University of Kenya’s Department of Hospitality and Human Ecology will in early 2026 represent Kenya in a global tourism competition in Dubai dubbed the ‘Future Leaders Challenge (FLC)’.  TU-K won a slot in the global competition during the East African ‘Future Leaders Challenge’ that was held at Strathmore University from 28th -29th April 2025. The competition brought together 17 teams from various universities in East Africa to showcase creativity, innovation and ingenuity in hospitality and tourisms spheres.

Students to Benefit from ActionLab Collaboration with TU-K On AI

An Artificial Intelligence agency under Kenya’s Office of the Special Envoy of Technology dubbed ActionLab, has committed to work with the Technical University of Kenya (TU-K) in areas such as machine learning, big data, start-ups and market-driven innovations to place the country in the global AI technological growth. A delegation from ActionLab who visited TU-K revealed that the a collaboration between the two institutions would open-up several opportunities for students and staff undertaking research and innovations at various levels in AI and data-related fields including industrial placements.

TU-K Presents Theses to the Kenya National Library Service

The School of Graduate and Advanced Studies (SGAS) has presented to the Kenya National Library Service (KNLS) copies of students’ Master’s dissertations and PhD theses. This initiative is in respect of the ongoing collaboration between the two institutions. The team from SGAS was led by the Director, Prof. Tom Kwanya, accompanied by members of staff and Mrs Joyce Mugenya, a Senior Librarian at TU-K’s Library and Resource Learning Centre. They were received by the KNLS Acting Director, Ms. Betty Kalugho, Head of Department Preservation and Conservation, Mr. Richard Rono, and Head of Department Acquisition, Cataloguing Classification and Distribution Department.

VC Counsels New Students on Personal Success

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Benedict Mutua, has today 5th May 2025 challenged staff and students to maintain the highest standard of integrity, discipline and respect.  Speaking while addressing first-year students who completed their orientation programme on Friday last week, Prof. Mutua emphasised that TU-K values inclusivity, diversity and ethical behavior. “We all come from different regions and ethnic groups, you never applied to be born there. Respect and appreciate other people’s culture and values. We are here as a family of scholars,” said the VC.

TU-K Refines Scholars’ Research and Presentation Skills

A hybrid training workshop titled "Presentation and Grant Writing Skills was held from 28th to 30th April 2025. The event targeted postgraduate students, early-career researchers, postdoctoral fellows, and professionals across various disciplines to enhance their research skills. The focus of the workshop was to empower the attendees to craft persuasive research proposals with high potential for success in addition to developing exceptional presentation skills for academic settings.
