Professor Maurice Amutabi is the new Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic and Student Affairs (DVC-ASA). He takes over from Prof. Paul Shiundu whose term ended in 2023. Prof. Francis Gatheri, the Executive Dean, Faculty of Applied Sciences and Technology, has been serving as DVC – ASA on acting capacity. In a memo to the University community, the Chairman of the University Council, Dr. Idle Farah said Prof. Amutabi will serve for a term of five years effective May 1, 2025.
“We wish to notify the entire University staff and student fraternity that, following a competitive process conducted by the Public Service Commission, and pursuant to the Council consultation with the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Education, in accordance with the law, Prof. Maurice Amutabi has been appointed the DVC - Academic and Student Affairs,” the memo read in part.
Prof. Amutabi holds a PhD in History from the University of Illinois, USA, Master of Arts in History and Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science from the University of Nairobi.
Until this appointment, Prof Amutabi was serving as Chairperson of the Department of University Entrepreneurship and Innovation.
Prof. Amutabi has previously served as Vice-Chancellor at Lukenya University, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and Students Affairs), Kisii University and Executive Director at the Centre for Democracy, Research and Development among other roles.
Prof. Amutabi has previously taught political science, history, international relations, gender, and development studies in various universities including; Catholic University of Eastern Africa, Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, UoN, Moi University and Central Washington University, USA.
