About Us

The Technical University of Kenya Institutional Scientific and Ethics Review Committee (TUK-ISERC) was first accredited in February 2026 to review proposals in Health, Biomedical, Biological, Social and Environmental Sciences. The Committee is chaired by Prof. Dorrington Ogoyi and serves as the institution's governing body dedicated to maintaining high standards of scientific and ethical integrity.

Our Mission

Its mission is to foster credible, transparent, and socially responsible research that contributes meaningfully to national and global development. By evaluating and overseeing research activities under the university's umbrella, the committee ensures all scientific inquiry aligns with institutional and international ethics standards.

Our Mandate

At the core of TUK-ISERC’s mandate is the commitment to safeguard the dignity, rights, safety, and overall well-being of human research participants. The committee systematically reviews, approves, and monitors research proposals through a clear Service Charter. Depending on the scope and potential risk of a study, TUK-ISERC processes both full and expedited reviews, manages protocol amendments, handles continuing annual reviews, and conducts site inspections to verify ongoing compliance in the field.

Training & Accreditation

To ensure strict compliance and operational excellence, TUK-ISERC members have undertaken specialized training delivered by the Kenya Medical Research Institute Scientific and Ethics Review Unit (KEMRI-SERU). This training serves as part of the committee's pathway toward full accreditation by the National Commission for Science, Technology and Innovation (NACOSTI).

International Alignment

The committee operates in alignment with leading international research frameworks, including guidelines from the World Health Organization (WHO), CIOMS, and the Declaration of Helsinki.
