The Technical University of Kenya has formalised a strategic collaboration with Hyatt Regency Nairobi Westlands through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 22nd July, 2026. This partnership represents a historic milestone, as TU-K becomes the first university to join hands with Hyatt Regency in implementing the prestigious LEAP Internship Programme.
The MoU is aimed at reinforcing the link between academia and the hospitality industry, was signed by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Benedict Mutua. A TU-K delegation that visited the hotel was led by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Institutional Advancement and Enterprise, Prof. Paul Wambua, the Executive Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences and Technology, Prof. Peter Matu, Chairman, Department of Business and Management Studies, Prof. Evans Sagwa, Dr. Jones Mobegi, and Ms. Petwa Malaba who are lecturers in the Department of Business and Management Studies.
During the ceremony, the TU-K team was taken through the details of the LEAP Internship Programme by Ms. Susan Kariuki who is the Learning Coordinator, in the presence of Mr. Peter Ndirangu, the Director of Human Resources, Mr. Gilles Carlicchi, Director of Finance, and other senior members of the management team at Hyatt Regency Nairobi, Westlands.
The primary objective of this partnership is to establish a structured framework for collaboration, with a focus on facilitating the recruitment of TU-K graduates into Hyatt Regency’s LEAP Internship Programme. LEAP, an acronym for Learn, Evolve, Aspire, Perform, is a comprehensive six-month training initiative designed to equip graduates with practical skills in Marketing, Human Resource Management, Hospitality, and Engineering.
