Ecowrap Team was declared the winner of the Technical University of Kenya Society of Chemists (TUSOC) Sustainable Food Packaging Competition. The competition was supported by the Royal Society of Chemistry and the ceremony was held on January 23, 2026. The winners received cash prizes and certificate of recognition.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Benedict Mutua, has been appointed as a member of the Selection Panel to pick the Board of the National Council for Science, Technology and Innovation (NACOSTI). The appointment was made by the Prime Cabinet Secretary, Mr. Musaloia Mudavadi, and published in a Kenya Gazette Notice dated 16^th January 2026. The panel’s mandate shall end upon the successful appointment of the NACOSTI Board. The Selection Panel is being chaired by Prof Florence Olubayo. Alongside Prof Mutua, other members are: Daniel Oliech, George Nyakundi, Dr Stephen Ikikii, Wairimu Njage and Dr Evans Mukoye.  NACOSTI’s mandate includes regulating and ensuring quality in science, technology and innovation in the country and accordingly advises the Government on the same.

Research and innovation is the next frontier in technological advancement and sustainable development in Africa. This was said by Prof. Paul Wambua, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Institutional Advancement and Enterprise, during a workshop began on 5^th January, 2026 at Boma Hotel, Nairobi.  Speaking during the opening session of a 5-day ‘British Academy International Writing Mentorship Workshop’, Prof. Wambua noted that local and international collaborations and mentorships are critical in driving the socio-economic development agenda.   “To develop effectively, we must invest deliberately in research management, mentorship and international partnership.

Graduates from the Department of Hospitality and Human Ecology (DHHE) at the Technical University of Kenya showcased an ingenious tourism solution during the Kenya Tourism, Wildlife and MICE Jamhuri Thematic Week that was held from 8^th to 12^th of this month at the Kenyatta International Convention Center (KICC). 

Three students from the Department of Hospitality and Human Ecology (DHHE) represented the Technical University of Kenya (TU-K) at the IMEX-MPI Future Leaders Forum- Meetings Africa, held in Johannesburg from 24^th to 26^th February this year. The students had 10 minutes each to present their bid in front of a jury of industry professionals and compete for a place at the IMEX finals that were held in Frankfurt, Germany.

The Technical University of Kenya has sent two students to France under the 7-month English Language Assistant Programme, a bilateral exchange initiative between the French and Kenyan governments. The programme, provides an opportunity for language assistants in Kenya to teach English in France while their counterparts from France teach French in Kenya.
