TU-K Plants 1000 Trees at Konza

Members of staff and students from the Technical University of Kenya (TU-K) planted over 1000 tree seedlings at Konza Technopolis City. The tree planting exercise was led by the Ag. Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic and Student Affairs, Prof Francis Gatheri, representing the Vice Chancellor.

Ms. Beryl Omolo, a Senior Environment and Sustainability Officer- Konza Technopolis Development Authority, hosted the team from TU-K, guiding them through the exercise. The tree planting drive was jointly organised by Mr. Bernard Lusuli, Director, Institutional Advancement and Development and Dr. Agnes Gachau, Director, Strategy and Performance Management.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Lusuli emphasised the importance of ensuring the long-term survival of the trees that had been planted. He highlighted plans by the organizing departments to work closely with the Vice Chancellor's office to acknowledge the participation of staff and students through certificates of appreciation.

The university was invited by Konza Technopolis to organise a follow-up tree planting event in the future and encouraged the team from TU-K to take good care of the newly planted seedlings. This tree planting exercise is part of President William Ruto’s initiative to plant 15 billion trees by 2030, a move aimed at reducing greenhouse emissions, stopping and reversing deforestation and restoring 5.1 million hectares of deforested and degraded landscapes.
