On 12th April 2025, members of staff and students planted over 1,000 trees at Langata Barracks Secondary School compound. This was in conjunction with staff, students from the school and Kenya Defence Force officers.

The tree growing exercise is part of President Dr. William Ruto’s initiative to plant 15 billion trees by 2030, a move aimed at reducing greenhouse emissions, and reversing deforestation and restoring 5.1 million hectares of deforested and degraded landscapes.

The University has in the past participated in tree growing exercises at Konza Technopolis City and Highway Secondary School, Nairobi.

The exercise was led by the Acting Director, Entrepreneurial University and Resource Mobilisation, Prof. Mugera Gitari, Director, Strategy and Performance Management Dr. Agnes Gachau, Environmental Officer at the Barracks, Lieutenant M.K. Kutoh, Head of Environment at the Langata Barracks Secondary School, Roseline Makokha and TU-K Environment Club President, Rosemary Njeri.

Prof. Gitari said the exercise was part of national call and duty to serve community.

Lt. Kutoh together with the Mrs. Makokha, expressed their excitement indicating that they would invite the University again to conduct another tree growing exercise within the Barracks.

Staff from TU-K University took advantage of the event to conduct a career guidance session targeting Form Three and Four students.

Dr. Ali Adani, Senior Assistant Registrar, Student Support Services, and Moses Mulati, Administrative Officer, Student Admissions, led the session and urged the students to select TU-K when time for selection of universities comes.

Dr. Adani told the students that TU-K was among the top universities in Kenya offering best hands-on programmes.
