International Student Day was marked on 29th Oct, 2025, where students shared their experiences about TU-K and Kenya. The students drawn from; South Sudan, Rwanda, Malawi, South Africa, Uganda,  Tanzania, Somalia and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), noted that they felt privileged  to be studying in a premier technical institution and that they enjoy the hospitality of the country. While addressing the students, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Academic and Student Affairs (ASA), Prof. Maurice Amutabi, congratulated the students for being admitted to TU-K terming the occasion special and the greatest moment of one’s life.

He urged the students to study diligently, utilise time and make use of the opportunities available. “I would advise you to take your studies seriously in order to earn good grades that will enable you graduate. To be considered scholars, make sure that after graduation, pursue your postgraduate studies to the highest level possible,” said the DVC.

Prof. Amutabi emphasised that discipline, hard work, responsibility, networking and academic excellence to be the yardsticks for a successful career.

“Create unique niches, you never know when and where lack strikes. Speak up, move around and don’t be shy to share what you have and know. Use your talent wisely and remain good ambassadors of your countries.”

The Dean of students, Dr. Linnet Hamasi, echoed the DVC’s sentiments by urging students to utilise their time and available resources.

“You are the agents of change.  The responsibility of transforming the continent lies squarely on your shoulders. Step out of the matrix, stay focused,” added Dr. Hamasi.

The Muslim Chaplin, Dr. Adan Ali Adan advised students to use freedom presented by the university wisely. “Do the right thing at the right time and always be ready and willing to learn.”

Students Association of the Technical University of Kenya (SATUK) Council was represented by the Chairperson Moses Okal and the current International Student Representative Dudu Abdurahaman (from South Sudan). Also present was the former representative Ismael Kibaba (from Uganda).

Mr. Dudu thanked the Management for their support in making the event fruitful and appealed for more funding and marketing. “This would make the event bigger and therefore market the university. It would further appeal to other students to come on board, learn different cultures, language among other things. This will create more cohesion and existence.”
