Prof. Abdulrazak Praises TU-K For Embracing Innovation, Technology

PS Prof. Abdulrazak Shaukat

The Principal Secretary, State Department for Research, Science and Innovation, Prof. Shaukat Abdulrazak commended TU-K for embracing technology, digitalisation, and innovation. While addressing the congregation of the 14th graduation ceremony, the PS said:

“I urge universities to intensify research and technological development to accelerate national transformation, the Government plans to increase research and development investment from 0.8% to at least 2% of GDP and to scale Kenya’s target to 100 PhDs per million citizens.”

Prof. Abdulrazak encouraged TU-K to continue developing practical innovations that address local challenges hinting at ambitions to see TU-K engineering students eventually design and showcase home-grown technologies such as drones. He advised graduates to approach the world with courage, resilience, and a spirit of innovation, stressing that Kenya needs job creators as much as job seekers.

The PS, told the graduands that there was no big difference between themselves and those seated on the podium. “The difference between you and us is time. We were also students like you but you were not yet born. We worked our way up to where we are. I am sure some of will one day be seated up here and may do much better in life than most of us here. The secret is to keep on working smart.”
