Technical University of Kenya (TU-K) would soon sign an MoU with the Kenya Institute of Supplies Examination Board (KISEB) to engage in professional Certification training and examination. Speaking during a sensitisation and stakeholder engagement meeting between staff from TU-K and KISEB as well as students from the Department of Business and Management Studies (DBMS), Prof. Evans Sagwa explained that the MoU will focus on other areas such as participation of KISEB as external stakeholders, in the development of supply chain management curriculum and curricula activities.
It will focus on other areas such as provision of exemptions to TU-K students taking professional certification exams in units that they have already covered in their studies, professional training of professionals in any other areas. This, he noted, may be beneficial to both organizations.
Prof. Sagwa talked of the recently developed and rolled out curriculum in programmes which he said, have attracted a good number of students.
He explained that his Department was working on the new curriculum development in Finance, Strategic Management, Economics, Supply Chain Management, Business Information Technology (BIT) among others and therefore will incorporate views of professional bodies.
KISEB Senior Marketing and Corporate Communication Officer, Sabastian Mwalili, explained to students the importance of professionalism and pursuing professional qualifications offered by KISEB. He added that membership of KISEB was a leeway to Kenya Institute of Supplies Management (KISM) membership, a national body for professionals in the practice of procurement and supply chain management in Kenya.
He also urged them to join such bodies noting that they give them marketability. Mr. Mwalili noted that the session offered a positive interaction session where students asked questions about supply chain profession and got interested in pursuing professional courses.
“I would request students to enroll online and pursue at least a course before graduating. This will enable they have an upper hand over their peers.”
Dr. Jones Mobegi, a lecturer in the Department, said that the forum provided the much needed information to both students and staff on KISEB and the various examinations offered by the institute.
“This has enabled us to get feedback from participants and therefore information needed for curriculum development for Diploma, Degree and Postgraduate in economic, finance, marketing among others. I also appreciate the advice from KISEB about incorporation of Al in learning, automation of procurement processes among many others.”
