The Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Research and Technology Development (RTD) Prof. Isaac Orina, has underscored TU-K’s commitment in ensuring that the Innovation Week becomes an annual event. “This will ensure that students get an opportunity to showcase their innovations.” The DVC made these remarks during the closing ceremony of the inaugural TU-K Innovation Week that ended on Friday 8th May 2026.
He thanked the partners who supported the University in ensuring the event was successful. He said partners such as Access Kenya were willing to support the best innovations to be upgraded and developed to finer projects and therefore be commercialised. This he noted, would be a motivation to the students and the university.
Present during the ceremony were the DVC for Institutional Advancement and Enterprise (IAE), Prof Paul Wambua and other senior officers of the University.
The Judges for the innovations were: Ryan Mule (Samsung), Monica Mukena Maluta (Samsung), Belinda Nasimiyu (ICT Authority), Kevin Dol (ICT Authority) and Edward Kahura (ICT Authority).
The Hackathon projects were:
1. Beyond Chemicals developed by Joseph Mutuku Nzula, Newton Evarlasto, and Peter Kipkoske Koros.
2. Ride Connect developed by Eleazer Kinyita, Joseph Mjumbi, Collins Omwando, Titus Waweru and Benjamin Kipsang.
3. Land link developed by Jeff Ogweno, Ogosi Rodgers, Titus Waweru, Alex Muturi and Njuguna Kiarie.
The teams were awarded gift hampers from Samsung.
Winners of the first position in the exhibition category was a project dubbed EcoWrap developed by Pauline Wanjohi, Grace Mwangi and Sherline Wambui. They each took home Sh.25,000.
Single Layer Capacitor Antenna group scooped the second position pocketing Sh.20,000 each. The team was comprised of Alex Gachahi, Robert Mwangi, Ian Leposo and Dr. Lydia Gachahi.
Third position was taken by the Evented Plus group comprising of George Ndungi, Eugene Mike and Jaslyne Mokeira. They were awarded Kenya Sh. 15,000 each.
