Science of Mineral Formation and Water Resource

Prof. Renata Wenzkovich from Columbia University, New York speaking to TU-K staff, postgarduates students from the School of Physics and Earth Science and researchers from collaborating institutions including; Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA), Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) during a 3-day workshop on ‘Computational Ab initio Quantum Thermodynamics’; this is science explaining properties of matter and the core of the earth where minerals are formed, this extends to existence of water resource.

Prof. George Amolo, Director at the School said the workshop is part of a 10-year collaboration between TU-K and Columbia University that gives opportunities to students and staff for exchange programmes and access to super computing resource in Pittsburgh, US. The resource provides tools to study science or matter at its smallest level; that informs prediction of mineral locations, rocks and water resources. Such simulations eliminate trial and error thus informs investment precision.
