The Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment offers courses in various Engineering and related disciplines namely; Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical & Biological Systems, Civil and Aeronautical Engineering, Architecture and the Built Environment, Construction Management and Geospatial Sciences. These are undertaken by over half of the student population at the TU-K. This makes it the largest single destination for training engineering professionals in Kenya. The faculty offers undergraduate and postgraduate degree and diploma courses that are carefully designed to meet the needs of the country and that take into consideration national and international benchmarks and best practices, as well as the rapidly changing technological environment dubbed the fourth industrial revolution. Apart from the expected analytical and problem solving skills, graduates of the faculty are prepared with enhanced skills in collaboration, communication, critical thinking and creativity. These are in line with the University Motto of Education for the Real world.
All the programs in the faculty have an industry-based learning component that ensures that graduates are ready for the workplace and professional life at the point of graduation. The faculty maintains vibrant links with the industry as well as with other institutions of higher learning for this purpose and for collaboration in research and extension activities. TU-K boasts of some of the best engineering workshops and laboratory facilities in the region. Consequently, graduates of the faculty have historically had adequate hands-on exposure in their training. Every department in the faculty constitutes a team of highly trained and experienced academic and support staff. Our vision is to be a top-rated engineering faculty that is a center of excellence in research and innovation
