The Technical University of Kenya (TUK) in collaboration with State Department for Livestock Development (SDL), Tanners Association of Kenya (TAK) and United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD will hold a workshop on Eco-Tanning processes along the leather value chain in Kenya and the East African Region on Thursday August 17 and Friday August 18, 2023, at the Best Western Plus Meridian Hotel (located on 6th Muranga Road, Off Moi Avenue) in Nairobi, Kenya.
This workshop is organized under the Sustainable Manufacturing and Environmental Pollution (SMEP) Programme, established by the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), and is implemented in partnership with UNCTAD. This event responds to the Kenya Government’s Leather sector development priorities.
The workshop will address the challenges faced by the Leather value chain players, in particular, pollution control and environmental governance, and aspects, which impede their manufacturing processes and trade in leather and leather products, both locally and internationally. Capacity building for key stakeholders including the regulating authorities and academia on the future direction of the Leather industry will also be discussed.
The Workshop Coordinator is Dr. George Okwadha of the School of Civil & Resource Engineering.
