Technical University of Kenya (TU-K) Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Research and Technology Development (RTD), Prof. Isaac Orina, recently led a team from TU-K, on a visit to Fullcare Medical SEZ Ltd, a medical company based at Tatu City. The TU-K delegation was comprised of Prof. Jackson Odote, Dr. Naomi Waiganjo and Dr. Robert Onyancha from the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Technology (FAST) and Dr. Fredrick Mutua, Ag. Director, School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering (SMME).
The team visited the factory’s production area, laboratories, sensitization area among other departments.
FullCare Medical is a leading medical products manufacturer of surgical gowns, isolation gowns, lap sponge, scrub suits, hand towel (import) and gauze swabs. 20% of these products are sold in Kenya, while 80% are imported.
The visit marks a follow-up engagement on a collaboration between the two institutions. The move will see TU-K students from various disciplines benefit from attachment, internship and job opportunities. Members of staff will also benefit by carrying out research as well as repair and maintenance of FullCare machines and equipment.
FullCare team was comprised of Frederick Cao, Quality Manager/ Management Representative, Human Resource Manager Sue Su and Kevin Avedi, Assistant General Manager.
Prof. Orina noted that the visit was very important to the University adding that the two institutions will form a strong collaboration that would be beneficial to both parties.
“We are delighted to collaborate with FullCare, a major player in healthcare equipment production,” he said.
