TU-K Host Africa Tech Challenge Season 10 Graduation

Graduates from the Africa Tech Challenge Season 10 receive certificates during the ceremony

The Technical University of Kenya, on Friday, 29th August 2025, hosted the ATC Season 10 graduation ceremony.

The ceremony was officiated by Mr. John Tuwei, Director, TVET-Project and Partnership, State Department for Technical and Vocational Education, Ministry of Education. He was joined by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Benedict Mutua, Mr. Ephraim Munene, the Deputy Director and Coordinator of the Kenya/China Project, State Department for Technical and Vocational Education and Training, Ms. Du Juan, Vice-President of AVIC INNO Project Engineering Company, and other dignitaries.

The graduation ceremony marked the end of a month-long intensive training in CNC Turning, Mechanical Drawing Engineering, CAD Design, and Mobile Application Development, as well as a series of competitions.

A total of 55 graduates from 12 African countries—including Kenya, Cameroon, Côte d'Ivoire, Egypt, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea, Senegal, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe—were presented with certificates.

The Vice-Chancellor, said the University was proud to have hosted ATC Season 10 and congratulated the graduands for their discipline and creativity throughout the challenge.

“I am very proud that we are able to host Africa Tech Challenge Season 10 here at the University of Kenya. We highly appreciate the graduands and trainers for the great work that has been done,” said Prof. Mutua. “As a university, we are happy to be associated with you,” he added.

The Vice-Chancellor also praised the graduands for their resilience and growth, noting that they had not only sharpened their skills in manufacturing but also demonstrated excellence through competitions.

In his keynote address, Mr. Tuwei saluted all member states that participated in the Challenge for investing in the skills development of their youth. He further emphasised that skills such as CNC Turnings are not only in high demand globally but are also critical in driving industrialisation and innovation in Africa.

“Skills in CNC Turning remain one of the most advanced and in-demand manufacturing skills,” Mr. Tuwei said.

“By teaching our young people these skills and competencies, we are ensuring that Kenya is not only keeping pace with the post-industrial revolution but also positioning itself as a competitive player in modern manufacturing, he stressed”

He further congratulated the graduands on their outstanding achievements, noting that the graduation was a testament that young people can compete globally and solve real-world problems.

“Graduands, today marks the beginning of your journey as innovators, entrepreneurs, and global leaders. The certificates you receive today represent resilience, discipline, and readiness to transform your communities and nations,” he said.

“I encourage you to apply the skills you have acquired to solve real-world problems, to embrace innovation and creativity as key drivers of progress, and to build networks and collaborate across borders because Africa's growth is inevitable,” he added.

He also commended AVIC INNO Tech Limited for being a steadfast partner in supporting Kenya’s technical and vocational skill development. Additionally, he applauded TU-K for providing a conducive environment for nurturing creativity, innovation, and excellence.

In her remarks, Ms. Du Juan extended deep gratitude to the Ministry of Education and TU-K, noting that their partnership has been essential in positively shaping the lives of African youth. She also encouraged the graduands to continue with the spirit of evolution, collaboration, and teamwork.

The Africa Tech Challenge is an annual event that provides intensive training and culminates in competitions. Organised by AVIC International and the Ministry of Education of Kenya, ATC is now in its 10th year, and it demonstrates the importance of strong public-private partnerships in driving youth development, industrialisation, and economic growth.
