VC Attends China- Africa Automotive Forum and International Conference

Vice Chancellor Prof. Benedict Mutua (Seated Right) in a group when he attended 2025 China-Africa Automotive Development Conference in Ghana.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Benedict M. Mutua attended the China- Africa Automotive Development forum and international conference themed “Intelligent Manufacturing of light weight electric Vehicles. ”The event took place from 10th to 11th June 2025 at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi, Ghana. The conference brought together scholars, Innovators, policy makers and entrepreneurs from across Africa and China to share knowledge, showcase cutting edge technologies and chart a sustainable path tailored for Africa’s Automotive Industry.

In her welcoming remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of KNUST, Prof. Rita Dickson, noted that the future of mobility was electric, intelligent, and sustainable characterised by a shift from traditional combustion technologies to smart eco-friendly transportation which will give Africa a leap into advanced manufacturing and technology ecosystems to support inclusive and sustainable growth. These words were echoed the, Vice Chancellor, Prof Mutua, who noted that Africa stands at the cusp of a transformative shift in its automotive sector that demands localised innovation, skill development and technological adaptation.

The forum was graced by Hon. John A. Jinapor (MP), Minister of Energy and Green Transition, Ghana, Hon. Dr. Frank Amoakohene, Minister - Ashanti region, Ghana and Prof. Wang Xiao, President – Hubei University of Automotive Technology (HUAT), Hubei, China among other dignitaries from across the globe. The Vice- Chancellor was accompanied by Dr. Eng. Fredrick Mutua, Chairperson Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, TU-K, who also made a presentation on “A Paradigm shift from Thermosets to Thermoplastics - A Case Study of Polyoxamide Resin as an Alternative Towards Recyclable Lightweight Materials for the Automotive Industry.”

The Technical University of Kenya (TUK) in collaboration with Maseno University, the Belmont Forum, the International Science, Technology and Innovation Centre (ISTIC) under the auspices of UNESCO, the National Research Fund, South Africa (NRF-RSA), the National Research Fund, Kenya (NRF-Kenya), the Future Earth Africa Node, the Future Earth Africa Hub Leadership Centre and other partners will hold a 4-day 2nd East Africa Regional Workshop on Mastering Research Proposals: Integrating transdisciplinary approaches for impactful research beginning Saturday May 31, 2025 to Tuesday June 3, 2025.
