New Students Attend Pre-Orientation Virtual Forum

 Dr Moses Wamalwa

Some 978 students placed by KUCCPS attended three online sessions

Students placed at the Technical University of Kenya this year by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS), got an opportunity to engage with the institution’s members of faculty. The freshmen together with their guardians were taken through a pre-orientation process to familiarise themselves with the University. The webinar was hosted by the Registrar, Academic, Dr Moses Wamalwa.

TU-K will receive 1,947 students to pursue various programmes. The students are expected to join the institution in September this year. The University also admitted another batch of first year students in May this year.

TU-K has also made a call for Self-sponsored Programmes for the September intake.

Dr. Moses Wamalwa gave the students an overview of the University, admission and registration procedures, inter-faculty transfers and the university academic programmes, campus life and opportunities they stand to get upon graduation.

The online forum facilitated by the Directorate of ICT was conducted on Friday 11th July and on Saturday 12th July 2025. The students also benefited from live question and answer sessions.

Dr. Wamalwa at the same time highlighted TU-K flagship programmes in Aeronautical Engineering, Architecture and Built Environment, Printing and Media Technology among other several hands-on and industry-based programmes.

Some of the key aspects discussed in the admission procedures included; confirmation of student placement via KUCCPS portal, invitation by the TU-K through an SMS and email. Students would then be provided with a link where they would be expected to download their admission letters.

The students are expected to upload documents such as KCSE result slip, ID or birth certificate, passport photo to be eligible to pay fees via eCitizen, fill bio-data in their student profile, sign the nominal roll and finally apply for a smart student identity card.

Students can also apply for inter-institutional transfer (IIT) or inter-faculty transfer (IFT). For students wishing to apply for IIT, they must meet a cut-off points. Inter-institutional transfer application period is between 14th July and mid-August 2025 and is done on KUCCPS application portal.

Students who wish to change programmes within TU-K are expected to initially make an application on KUCCPS portal, and thereafter apply at TU-K portal upon approval. Applicants would then need to download a revised admission letter from TU-K application portal.

Dr. Wamalwa announced that the new students would be taken through an orientation programme between 25th and 30th August 2025. The students will meet the University leadership and faculty, they will be facilitated through campus tours and departmental visits as well as provided with WiFi and e-mail log-in credentials as well as student portal set-up. The students would also be taken through academic policies and class structure, student health, wellness and support services, code of conduct and campus safety.

DVC – Academic and Student Affairs Prof. Maurice Amutabi congratulated the students on their placement and thanked them for selecting TU-K.
