The Technical University of Kenya, on Monday held a memorial service and candle lighting for the late Peter Marite, a final-year student who succumbed to injuries following a road accident on Friday, 4th July 2025. The late Marite was en route to Nairobi from his home in Kajiado South. The late student was pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce – Accounting option.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor – Academic and Students Affairs Prof. Maurice Amutabi led members of staff and students in condoling with family, friends and his comrades. He praised the late Marite for his leadership vibrancy and hard work.
“The University Management joins the student fraternity in mourning a vibrant a student leader, this is the saddest moment in our institution.”
The late Marite joined the University in 2022 and was elected by his colleagues to represent them in the Department and later at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Technology (FSST). His sound and persistent leadership saw the Faculty top in the SATUK Awards of 2024/2025.
The Dean of Students, Prof. Omondi Oketch described him as an ardent leader, liked even beyond the University, having championed revision of fees for the CPA Courses.
His close friend Mr.Elvis Kulaku said Marite had expressed interest in national politics and already braced to run for Member of County Assembly position in his home county.
Marite will be buried on Saturday 19th July 2025 at his home in Kaku Ward, Kajiado South.
