The Department of Creative Arts and Media held a live performance assessment concert of the final-year students on 23rd July, 2025. The event, which had African Rhumba and Jazz as its theme, featured music from across the continent by fusing jazz improvisation with soulful rhumba melodies.
Magollo and Maxgocho, who enthralled the audience with their vibrant and culturally-diverse sets, were the pick of the show. Students' friends and families attended. Some students chose to perform outside the University as part of their final project, and the performances are still ongoing. Final-year degree and diploma students are participating. They see the concerts as an opportunity to refine their artistic and academic paths.
Among the staff who attended the occasion included: Senior Lecturer, Dr. Frederick Mbogo, Department of Creative Arts and Media, Ms. Violet Kwamboka and Mr. Gibson Mawira.
Mr. Mawira emphasized self-employment and creative collaboration by encouraging students to form groups and take up gigs rather than wait for job placements. He urged them to build networks and perform together.
For the students, the concert was not just an academic requirement, it was a celebration of talent, identity and possibility.
