A team of four Professors and nine students from the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam, Germany, are in the country to jointly work with Technical University of Kenya (TU-K) on a project that aims at digitising historical maps at the Kenya National Archives and Documentation Service. The exercise will be launched tomorrow 4 th November 2025, at the Kenya National Archives and Documentation Services.
The delegation is led by Prof. Constanze Langer (Vice President for Digitalisation and International Affairs) and his counterpart, Prof. Dr:-Ing. Peter Heisig who is the Vice-President for Research and Transfer. They paid a courtesy call to TU-K and were received by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Institutional Advancement and Enterprise (IAE), Prof. Paul Wambua on behalf of the Vice- Chancellor, Prof. Benedict Mutua. DVC termed the visit very important and a great honour to the University. He added that the institution was excited and looked forward to more collaborations such as the teaching of Germany language to TU-K students.
The two universities recently formalised an MoU which will cover academic, exchange programmes for lecturers and students, conferences, workshops, research among many others. Other members in the delegation included; Prof. Dr. Veit Köppe (Professor of Library Science- Technologies, Systems and Services), Prof. Dr. Julia Maria Struß (Professor of Applied Data Science), Prof. Tom Kwanya, Director School of Graduate and Advanced Studies (SGAS), Prof. Naomi Mwai and other faculty members. The team will further hold an exhibition to display the digitised products at the Kenya National Library Service Headquarters on Friday, 7 th November 2025.
TU-K enjoys mutual relationship with Germany Embassy in Nairobi, leading Germany Universities and Research Institutions. They have jointly taken part in various activities such as research and exchange programmes.
