Mitigating Food insecurity through analyzing Earth Observation data

The Government will soon be able to take informed and responsive measures to address food insecurity in good time through analyzing Earth Observation data. This was unveiled during a recent capacity building workshop to share the preliminary outputs of a collaborative project named ‘Remote sensing and modelling to assess crop-specific response to climate stressors.’

Accreditation of Engineering Courses Enters Homestretch

Engineering programmes at The Technical University of Kenya will soon be accredited. Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) Chairman, Eng. Erastus Mwongera has announced that the accreditation process is currently in its last stage. Eng. Mwongera, who was accompanied by Board Registrar and CEO Eng. Margaret Ogai, spoke during the board’s independent review evaluation exercise at TU-K.

CHPC Offers Computing Resources to TU-K Researchers

The Center for Higher Performance Computing (CHPC) has assured TU-K researchers that they will continue enjoying access to high profile computing resources to enable them conduct more focused research. This was disclosed by Werner Janse Van Rensburg, the CHPC Research Manager when he spoke to scientists and engineers when he visited the university in July 2023.

French Embassy to up Collaboration with TU-K

The French Embassy in Nairobi has reaffirmed the French Government support for the collaborative projects with the Technical University of Kenya.

This was disclosed on 4th July 2023 when a delegation from the French Embassy in Nairobi paid a courtesy call to the university to strengthen the ongoing cooperation between the TU-K and the French Government.

THE Technical University of Kenya (TU-K) is the leading university in technological education and training in Kenya. The University was awarded a Charter in 2013, making it a fully-fledged public university. IAEA Competition Video by TUK Students

In this video, TUK student in the School of Chemistry and Material Science highlight the importance of laying nuclear safety and security measures prior to embracing use of nuclear science and technology techniques to drive towards clean reliable nuclear energy, reliable agriculture, medical breakthroughs et cetera. DARA-KOTI Astronomy Training Programme

Africa is becoming the focus for the world of astronomy. Construction is underway of the mid-frequency dishes of the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) – the next generation global radio astronomy facility that will be built initially in South Africa, and then rolled out across eight African partner countries, including Kenya. South Africa also hosts the South African Large Telescope (SALT), which with its 10 m diameter mirror is one of the largest optical telescopes in the world.

Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) has committed to support the newly established TU-K Institutional Ethics Review Committee (IERC) to ensure ethical principles in research are upheld. This extends. The training comes in handy for the university in areas of review of research proposals, post approval monitoring within local and international policy and regulatory frameworks.

Staff Attend Advanced Welding Training

Members of staff have benefited from an advanced training in welding supported by the Metallurgical Research and Development Institute (CMRDI) and Arab Fund for Technical Assistance to African Countries (AFTAAC). The training was hosted by the Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment (FEBE) in which 50 young scientists, engineers and technicians were trained in a programme titled, “Advanced Welding Processes - Laser Beam Welding and Underwater Welding.”

TUK Chemistry Student Wins ARSO Essay Competition

TUK student, Frank Omwoyo from the school of Chemistry and Material Science is among the winners of the 10th ARSO (African Organization for Standardization) annual essay competition both in the national and continental level. This year's essay competition was organized under the theme "The role of standardization in promoting the growth of micro, small, and medium sized enterprises(MSMEs) for sustainable, inclusive and diversified industrial and economic development" and was open for young adults below 35 years in colleges and universities. For his win, he will be be attending the annual ARSO conference to be held in DRC Congo where certificates and money will be awarded

Prof. Paul Shiundu appointed Acting Vice Chancellor

Prof. Paul Shiundu has been appointed Acting Vice-Chancellor effective today 16th May 2023. Prof. Shiundu takes over from Prof. Francis Aduol whose second 5-year term ended yesterday 15th May 2023.  Until his appointment, Prof. Shiundu has been Prof. Aduol’s principal deputy serving as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic and Students Affairs.
